Masifundise has an exciting opportunity for a Programme Manager to join the team. This senior position is based in Cape Town.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Programme Manager to provide strategic leadership and oversight of its programme portfolio, ensuring the effective implementation of programmes and projects that advance the organisation’s mission and long-term vision. The role is responsible for translating organisational strategy into impactful programme delivery, leading and supporting programme staff, and strengthening advocacy, partnerships, organisational learning, and sustainability initiatives.
The successful candidate will be an effective leader and skilled programme manager with a strong commitment to social justice and food sovereignty, community empowerment, and participatory development. They will bring the ability to inspire teams, build strategic relationships, drive innovation, and contribute to the continuous growth and effectiveness of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Programme Leadership
- Lead the proactive and strategic implementation of Masifundise’s programme strategies at an operational level.
- Ensure programme implementation aligns with the organisation’s strategic objectives, annual plans, and priorities.
- Monitor programme performance and identify opportunities for innovation, growth, and continuous improvement.
- Support the development and refinement of organisational strategies and operational plans.
Programme and Project Management
- Manage programme from design through implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with agreed objectives and donor requirements.
- Develop and maintain effective programme management systems, processes, and reporting mechanisms.
- Monitor programme risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
Team Leadership and Staff Development
- Provide effective leadership, supervision, and support to programme staff.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
- Support staff development through mentoring, coaching, performance management, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Promote staff wellbeing and contribute to a positive and inclusive workplace environment.
Advocacy and Organisational Impact
- Ensure Masifundise’s advocacy, lobbying, and public engagement activities are implemented effectively and are aligned with organisational strategy.
- Support the development of strategic partnerships, networks, and alliances that advance organisational objectives.
- Contribute to strengthening Masifundise’s public profile and reputation among stakeholders, communities, donors, and partners.
- Represent the organisation at meetings, forums, workshops, and public events as required.
Organisational Learning and Development
- Contribute to building Masifundise as a learning organisation by promoting reflection, knowledge-sharing, and evidence-based practice.
- Support the development and implementation of monitoring, evaluation, learning, and knowledge management systems.
- Encourage innovation and the incorporation of lessons learned into programme design and implementation.
Resource Mobilisation and Sustainability
- Contribute to strengthening the sustainability of the organisation through effective resource management and strategic planning.
- Assist the Director in designing innovative programmes, projects, and funding approaches.
- Support proposal development, donor engagement, fundraising initiatives, and partnership-building efforts.
- Ensure the efficient and effective use of organisational resources.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- A Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Management, Community Development, Education. Candidates with comparable level of experience gained through professional practice will be considered.
- At least five years’ experience at senior management in the social justice field, strong background in food sovereignty and/or popular education and organising would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing complex programmes or projects.
- Proven experience in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and partnership development.
- Strong understanding of project planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
- Proven experience in organisational development, strategic planning, or resource mobilisation.
- Proven commitment to social justice,
