Subject: West Coast Small-scale fishing communities, Coastal Links, Masifundise and other organisations return to Western Cape High Court to protest against seismic blasting in the West Coast.
On 24 February 2022 West Coast fishing communities will once again return to the Western Cape High Court to challenge seismic blasting in their coastal waters. This comes after the Western Cape High Court granted an interim interdict against Searcher Seismic, halting their planned seismic blasting off the West Coast from Cape Town to Namibia on 7 February 2022.
Tomorrow, the substance of the case will be heard by Judge Thulare. Members from small-scale fishing communities coming from Port Nolloth, Hondeklipbaai, Ebhenezer, and Arniston, Papendorp, Doringbaai, Lambertsbay, Steenberg Cove Saldanha Bay and Langebaan will be outside the Western Cape High Court protesting and defending their right to say no to oil and gas developments in their traditional fishing areas.
