The Standing Committee of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on Economic Opportunities, Tourism and Agriculture will be hosting public hearings on the impact of abalone poaching on small-scale fishing communities in February 2017. Please find attached the committee programme for the hearings as approved by the Chairperson (dates and locations contained therein).

These hearings do not stem from a Bill, but rather a resolution made by the Committee during a Committee Meeting on abalone poaching on 21 September 2016.

The Committee will be holding hearings in Saldanha Bay, Gansbaai and Cape Town. We will be inviting municipalities and other stakeholders (Community Based Organisations and other NGOs) to make submissions.

See draft programme here: Revised draft programme for public hearings – Abalone poaching Feb 2017 as at 13 Dec 2016
