Doring Bay Abalone Farm Launched
Today,13 November was the launch day of the Doring Bay Abalone Farm in Doring Bay, Western Cape. The event was hosted by the Western Cape Aquaculture Development Initiative (WCADI) together with the Matsikama Municipality.
As part of the government’s Operation Phakisa deliverables to unlock the economic potential of South Africa’s Oceans, the Doring Bay Abalone Farm forms part of one of the eight key initiatives that is expected to assist with pushing the growth of the aquaculture sector.
In a press statement released by WCADI last Wednesday, the organisation expressed confidence that the “community-owned farm would eradicate poverty in Doring Bay and surrounding towns”.
“This project exemplifies collaboration between various partners. It will forever change Doring Bay and the surrounding towns by transforming poor communities into highly skilled Abalone farmers.”
CEO of WCADI Edward Shalala, expressed his excitement and said “ this is one of many projects in the west coast that will help eradicate poverty and provide jobs that exceed the number of people in this area”
Masifundise and Coastal Links supports aquaculture initiatives in so far as they create jobs and develops skills in local communities.
