Small-scale fishes across the Western Cape Province want to make their voices heard so that the small-scale fisheries policy can be properly implemented.
On November 8, there will be community action in Kleinmond, Hout Bay, Paternoster and Lamberts Bay.
In Kleinmond all the fishers from the South Coast will protest together, in Hout Bay fishers from Cape Town communities will protest and in Paternoster the fishers from the South-West Coast will protest and the fishers from the North-West Coast will pull together in Lamberts Bay.
All these actions will culminate in a huge protest march to Parliament on November 21, as part of a programme to show disapproval of what DAFF is doing and also to celebrate World Fishers Day, which celebrates the formation of the World Forum of Fisher Peoples on November 21, 1998.
Fishers are asked to check with their local CLSA branches for more details about the protest actions around the issues hindering the effective implementation of the small-scale fisheries policy.
In the meantime fishers are requested to make certain that they appeal their exclusion from the provisional fishers list in the Western Cape before November 21.
