A presentation focusing on governance dilemmas in the Western Cape traditional Line Fish was one of the highlights at a meeting held by Masifundise, last week.
The presentation named “Mind the Gap”, focused on traditional line fishers, their livelihoods and the negative impact of the Linefish rights allocation on the traditional line fishers.
Presented by Serge Raemakers, a researcher at the University of Cape Town’s Environmental and Evaluation Unit (EEU), “Mind the Gap” highlighted the problems faced by the Traditional Line Fisheries and how the development of the Small-Scale Fisheries conflicts and overlaps with traditional line fisheries.
The meeting was attended by about 30 fisher folk, researchers and partner organisations, from around the country.
The presentation will be made available on social media and on our website later this week.
